Had to agree wholeheartedly with John Humphrey's assessement of Delia's deep fried Mars bars. Sounds like a recipe for coronary heart potential patients!!

Hi Anthony,

Someone who studied nutrition said to me that seeds where healthy, good for you and could be used as snacks.

Suggested seeds Sunflower, Pumpkin, Sesame seeds. Put some Linseeds on cereal from time to time, is supose to be healthy.

When I go swimming, they have a cafe, and they sell a packet of seeds, nuts and rasins, which I sometimes get.

You can buy seed mixs' in health shops, or Supermarkets. Or make your own up.

3 Almonds a day are supose to be very healthy.

She also recommend, low fat yogurt, which is good for you. And lower in cals than most things.

An apple or a piece of fruit.

A small handful of nuts; Almonds and Walnuts are recommended

Or dried fruit, like rasins.

Also there is crudites, which are carrot, cucumber, peppers (green, red and yellow) sticks

My work involves me spending a lot of time in my car. Someone advised me to have some protein-rich snacks with me. I remember once seeing a recipe for some muesli bars, whilch contained mainly oats and dried fruit. Does anyone know where I could find a recipe or perhaps someone has other ideas for protein snacks.

Thanks for the help.
Anthony.

Read that quite few people don't have confidence in cooking fish ( me being one of them). But have started learning to cook fish.

Have found it to be really good. It is healthy, oilly fish is suppose to be very healthy. It took a while to get used to it. My tastes have changed, and over time, I know think I prefer it to meat (red meat, we are not supose to eat to much of). About once a week.
Fish is much lighter than meat.

Have found the superstores ( and I am sure fishmongers) to be helpful.

Some of my family are funny about the bones in fish (personally I don't mind removing them as I go) you can ask them at the counter to fillet the fish, or butterfly it - where they take most of the bones out, and it stays in one piece. For example you can do this with Mackeral.

The price can varie, it can be expensive, whole fish seems quite expensive, fillets are a lot cheaper. We brought 4 Herrings that had been butterflied, for £1.70 in total !!!!!!!! that was on the 20th Feb 2010

Fish also can be quick and easy to cook. My husband cooked the fish for 20 mins in the oven, but it was a bit over done. In tescos, when they put the fish in the foil bags, it has the cooking instructions on the back.

We had last night Herrings ( although it was butterflied, it seems to be a fish with quite a few bones, which the fussier members of my family didn't like). It had a lovely taste.
While learning to cook with fish to make it easier Tescos do a different variety of fish sauces in foil cartons. We had lime and corriandor sauce.
New potatoes, and salad.
And a glass of red wine, for who wanted it. ( it is the recommended healthy option to choose red wine)

Having people who are quite fussy, it works well to have the different salads seperatly, so people can help themselves, in containers that after I can put straight in the fridge, some plastic that you can put lids on. So it is ready for when you need it next.

Think it is about 3 times a week they recommend you eat fish.

Herring might be better filleted, to help remove the bones.
My husband thinks Mackeral would work better than Herring, being butterflied.

(sorry to those who saw these earlier, I put Haddock, it was Herring, my husband noticed I had put the name of the wrong fish down.)

We are trying baking some home made bread.
Went to a food shop a couple of years ago, real food, and the taste was much better.
The shop bread is very different to homemade in taste and texture. It is much more filling than shop brought.
When its me doing the shoping, I try to get the shop home baked wholemeal bread.
But homemade even beats theirs.
There are flours wholemeal, mixed seed, barley and rye, all sort of different types of flour.

In Bible, when they had fish and bread to brake, they where barley bread loaves !

Brought the , What would Jesus eat book, and also what would Jesus eat cook book, by Don Colbert, M.D. Haven't read all of it yet but started.

White flour isn't healthy, I heard it can block your intestines. And they use bleach on the flour.
Also don't think brown flour is that great.
Should be wholemeal, that sort of flour. Organic is the best.
